DIY Homemade Natural Skin Care Tips

Did you know that throughout history people believed in the anti-ageing magic of nature? In Ancient Egypt they used Honey and Milk in masks or baths; in China and Japan used rice powder to make their faces white; Romans used olive oil in their skincare regimes and many more.

It is important to maintain the overall health of the skin by keeping it moisturised and hydrated. Therefore, using natural skincare ingredients can soothe irritated skin and prevent breakouts or skin damage.

With time we have refocused on natural products. Mostly harmless to the skin, homemade face and body products have grown more popular. Leveraging the age-old wisdom of our ancestors, here are some of the best DIY skincare natural ingredients:

Honey

Honey is a natural moisturizer. Research shows that it can help treat dry skin, eczema and psoriasis. This natural product may also help prevent and treat wrinkles while restoring the upper layer of the skin. Apply 1-2 tablespoons of honey on the face and neck regularly to keep wrinkles away.

Additionally, Honey can also act as a wound healer, especially in the case of burns.

Rose Water

Roses are a natural coolant and thus having a soothing effect on your skin. These beautiful flowers are highly emollient, helping fight premature ageing, improve tone, texture and elasticity. Mix 2 teaspoons of rose water with half a teaspoon of lime juice, and apply with a cotton ball.

Banana

A miracle fruit excellent for all types of skin. Rich in potassium and moisture, it will hydrate and moisturise dry skin, making it soft and supple. To fix acne, apply a pack of ripe banana, baking soda and turmeric powder.

Bananas also contain super wrinkle-fighting nutrients that help fade age spots and prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming. Combined with other wrinkle-fighting ingredients, you can nourish, exfoliate and protect your skin. An example of a powerful anti-ageing banana face mask contains one mashed banana, 1 teaspoon thick yoghurt, and 1 teaspoon orange juice.

Eggs

Various benefits exist when you apply natural ingredients to your face like egg whites. It shrinks the large pores where bacteria can grow, helps greasy skin and prevents breakouts. Blend egg whites with yoghurt. This combination of natural ingredients helps you get rid of clogged skin pores.

Yoghurt

Plain yoghurt has gained popularity in recent years for its key nutrients. It has made its way into skincare routines as a natural moisturizer relieving dry or easily irritated skin. Blend yoghurt with honey and milk and gently exfoliate your skin with this mix.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is perhaps best known as a sunburn remedy. However, its skin benefits extend beyond that, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It also helps moisturize dry skin. Its ability to absorb quickly into the skin makes aloe vera a great option for oily skin. Aloe vera is a skin superfood!

Additionally, Aloe helps to heal and protect at a cellular level. It pulls moisture into the skin and has an anti-inflammatory property which is great for acne and eczema.

Conclusion

Creating homemade cosmetic products allows us to manage what we use on our skin. However, not only the ingredients themselves are important, but also how they are used in combination. Remember to consider if your skin’s allergic when choosing to apply any of these natural ingredients.
